The Team at Wineport Lodge Hotel
recognise that the activities involved in running
the business necessarily impinge upon the environment.
In an effort to minimise these effects,
the Hotel is committed to a policy of sound and
responsible environmental management, leading
to a sustainable use of resources and careful
management of waste.
Wineport Lodge undertakes
that it will:
Ensure that all employees at all
levels are aware of the negative environmental
effects of their activities and the benefits of
improved environmental performance, and will provide
specific environmental training to this effect.
Communicate this environmental policy
and promote environmental awareness amongst all
employees;
Adopt a policy of 'green procurement',
taking environmental factors into account in all
purchasing and supplier contracts;
Promote the principle of sustainable
development whereby the present needs of the Hotel
will not compromise the abilities of the Community
to meet its own needs;
Provide local and organic produce
on Menus.
Take all measures that
are reasonably practicable to:
• reduce waste at source;
• re-use waste components where it is safe
and practicable to do so;
• recover/recycle those fractions of the
waste stream where an outlet is available; and
• dispose of final wastes by the most environmentally
suitable means;
• adopt the practice of responsible energy
management through reduced consumption and the
encouragement of energy efficiency throughout
the business;
• aim for continuous improvement throughout
the business.
Examples of how this ethos works:
• Phosphate Free cleaning
agents used in all departments
• All effluent treated on site, with final
stage polishing in a specially constructed wetland
which enhances the habitat for wildlife on the
property.
• Low energy & low wattage bulbs used
in the building
• Cardboard & paper baled and re-cycled
• Glass waste crushed on site for easy handling
and collection
• Locally sourced ingredients; mushrooms,
beef, dairy products, herbs
• West facing aspect to enhance solar gain
and promote passive heating in the rooms
• Highly insulated building with high performance
double glazed timber windows and doors
• Individual heating in all guest rooms
to eliminate waste heat
• Cedar clad structure and timber framed
windows to deliver a low maintenance aesthetically
pleasing external finish from a renewable source
