History of Wineport Lodge

Wineport Lodge is listed in the Michelin, Bridgestone and Georgina Campbell guides, and has collected major industry and tourism awards. Core staff members have also won customer service and cookery awards while representing Wineport.

The cuisine, under Chef Cathal Moran's careful hand, is both wholesome & innovative and aims to showcase the finest local ingredients in season and at their best. General Manager, Norma Wilson, leads a team dedicated to ensuring your needs are always attended to.

Wineport is itself a townland name of the area where the business is situated, three miles north of Athlone on the shores of the inner lakes of Lough Ree on the Shannon. Guests arrive by road or water, and the bar & restaurant is popular with gourmet diners, tourists, corporate clients, the local community, families, golfers and sailors.

Glasson and its environs has developed very successfully since the Championship Glasson Golf & Country Club opened in September 1993, and imminent city status awaits the bustling town of Athlone. There has been significant investment in marina facilities, boats, shopping, restaurants, accommodation and amenities and a vibrant, attractive destination has blossomed with obvious benefits to the whole area

THE GREAT TRADITION OF WINE DRINKING

The association between this peaceful spot on the inner lakes of Lough Ree in the centre of Ireland, and the great tradition of wine drinking goes all the way back to the year 542 A.D. when St. Ciaran’s monks discovered the perfect landing place for their precious cargo of wine barrels from France.
